Summary: July 6th 2025

Northern Residents: [A42s plus A94 in Salish Sea}

Bigg’s orcas: T060s

Humpbacks: Argonaut, Quartz

Briefly . . .Seasmoke Whale Watching reported orcas mid strait off Cracroft Point in Johnstone Strait around 8:30am. This would turn out to be the T060s taking yet another turn through the area. They apparently came in via Weynton Pass. The Lab jumped and found them on the CP remote camera just east of Kaikash Creek travelling eastward at 9:13am. There were no calls. By 9:48am they had made it past Kaizumi Beach. A couple of minutes later the Cliff Research site clocked them mid strait, still eastbound. The Lab was able to contribute a further sighting when they appeared on the Critical Point remote camera briefly, mid strait. After 11am, their trail went cold although it is presumed they continued east.

In the Salish Sea, the A42s (with A94) were reported at 9:13am off the southern tip of Quadra Island. Megan later confirmed the IDs between 9:45 and 10:15am and commented that A94 still has a rather smaller fin then one might expect for a 16 year old male. Megan did a follow-up report for the day saying that at 3pm the A42s were southbound between Savary and Hernando Islands and that later they were south of Lund.
